The furniture anchor style pictured is sold by many vendors on the internet. The reliability of this type of furniture anchor is questionable. The brackets are not the issue. Often times the screws that are provided for installation into a wall stud are of inferior quality and too short to adequately penetrate the wall stud. You may need to use this design for tall bookshelves or applications where a strap style anchor is not applicable. In that case throw the poor quality screws in the garbage and use good quality 1-1/2″ to 2″ screws to penetrate the wall stud. The screws for the furniture side should bite into the wood at least 3/4″.

The provided loop of cable that connects the two brackets has very small threads and is known to fail when it is mis-threaded by you.  I would not trust this hardware. If you use this design use both the cable loop provided as well as a heavy plastic cable tie. The last thing you need is for your furniture anchor to fail when you need it the most – to keep your child out of harms way.
