Why We Need To Anchor All Dressers

Steps to Anchor Your Dresser

Step 1, Outline Dresser Location

You'll be moving the dresser away from the wall. Before you do make sure to mark the dressers location with pencil or painters tape. Mark the top right and left corners specifically where the top frame of the dresser is located. It's important not to try and install the dresser bracket portion of the anchor into something like a moveable changing station such as the one in the picture.

Step 2, Move Dresser Away From Wall

Place furniture sliders under the dresser and slide the dresser away from the wall. Make sure to move it far enough away so you can move around behind in the area where the dresser was.

Step 3, Locate and Mark Wall Stud Location

We marked the right and left top corners with blue painters tape. Find the wall studs between the painters tape. One method is to use a stud finder. Another method is to use strong magnets to locate the nails that hold the drywall to the wall studs. We use four magnets which makes locating the stud line simple. Just be sure not to try and install the wall bracket screw directly on top of that drywall nail.

Step 4, Select Wall Stud and Attach Wall Bracket

There may be two or more wall studs located between the pencil marks or painters tape. You'll need to choose two wall studs. Choose two that are near the edge of the dresser if possibly but not so close that you can see them for aesthetic considerations. Install the wall bracket portion of the furniture anchor about 8-12" from the top of the dresser.

Step 6, Measuring For Dresser Bracket Attachment

The dresser bracket portion of the furniture anchor needs to be installed so it's in line with the wall bracket when the dresser is pushed back up against the wall. You'll need to measure the distance between the outside of the dresser and where the wall anchors was attached to the wall. We marked the right side measurement with red lines to demonstrate where to measure. Collect the second measurement form the left side using the same method.
